Dudley B. Hardaway, Jr., 93, retired employee of Union Carbide, died Monday, May 2, 2016 at his residence on Skelley Lane. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Pastor John Harris officiating. Burial will follow in Friendship Cemetery with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Friday from 12:00 - 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the son of the late Dudley Beatrice Hardaway, Sr. and Gertrude Brett Rice Hardaway. On September 12, 1953, he married Helen Warden Hardaway who preceded him in death April 3, 2016. Mr. Hardaway was a 1940 graduate of Athens, Alabama High School and attended Athens Methodist College. He proudly served his country in the U. S. Army during World War II and was a seventy-one year member of Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. He managed the Union Carbide Guest House on Trotwood Avenue for over thirty-five years and was an excellent cook. Mr. Hardaway was also a former home builder. An avid bowler, he served as Columbia Bowling Association Treasurer for over twenty-five years and was a life member of Greater Columbia USBC Bowling Association. Mr. & Mrs. Hardaway loved their nieces and nephews as their own children. Survivors include brothers, Winston Wayne (Cathey) Hardaway, Sr. of Schertz, Texas and Charles Malcolm (Peggy) Hardaway of Columbia; nieces and nephews, Wendy (Brad) Fisher, Wayne Hardaway, Kelley (Judy) Hardaway, Betty (Bobby) Turpen, Carol (Danny) Balch, Rick Hammond, Jim (Lisa) Hammond, Julia Hammond; great nieces and great nephews, Jessica Oliver, Riley Fisher, Jeremy Hammond, Courtney Hammond, Roland Manley, Redford Manley, Grace Hammond, Gretta Hammond, Tammy (Mark) Bell, Joey Balch, Terry (Wendy) Turpen; great great niece, Charli Ann Hammond; great great nephews John Bennett Hammond and Tyler Doland; great great step-nephew, Thomas Bell; and great great great niece, Charlotte "Charli" Doland. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Louise Hardaway and Evelyn Jean Hardaway Roberts; and great nephew, Robbie Balch. Pallbearers will be Brett Herrmann, Brad Fisher, Charlie Hardaway, Dan Kolstedt, Kelley Hardaway, and Richard Davis.
