View Funeral WebcastMr. Earl Crawford Brown, 83, retired employee of Spontex Corporation and resident of Danbury Drive, died Friday, January 9, 2009 at Life Care Center. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Monday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Edward Murphy, Randy McNeese, and Jeff Waldrop officiating. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 4:00 -8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the son of the late Everett L. Brown and Lillie Bell Oliver Brown. On June 11, 1955 he married Mildred Tomerlin Brown who preceded him in death on March 8, 1982. On May 14, 1983, he married Geneva Waldrop Peden Brown who survives. He served as Sergeant in the U. S. Army during the Korean War and was a member of Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. Mr. Brown began his career at E. I. Dupont Corporation and retired from Spontex. He was a member of Bethel Church of Christ and for the past three years had attended West Seventh Street Church of Christ. In addition to his wife he is survived by one daughter, Teresa (Jeff) Kincaid of Columbia; one stepdaughter, Cathy (Charles) Gibson of Lynnville; two stepsons, Tom (Paula) Peden of Houston, Texas; Bob (Florence) Peden of Nashville; two sisters, Mary (Howard) Mills and Bernice Bratton, both of Columbia; one sister-in-law, Dean Henson Brown of Culleoka; five step grandchildren; six step great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, Pete Brown, and one sister, Ruth Vick. Active pallbearers will be Ashley Brown, Jerry Brown, Jerry Young, Mike Bratton, Billy Brown, Mike Isabell, Billy Gibson, and Kelly Ray Bratton. Honorary pallbearers will be Arvil O'Brian, Howard Mills, Billy Oliver, Ray Thomas Brown, and retired employees of E. I. Dupont and Spontex.
