View Funeral Webcast Mrs. Earlene Denton Smith, 85, retired licensed practical nurse, died Friday, March 13, 2009 at Village Manor in Lewisburg. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 2:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with John Vaughan officiating. Burial will be in Bryant Cemetery in the Mooresville Community. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Bryant Cemetery, c/o Carol Williams,1207 Mooresville Road, Culleoka 38451. Born in Winter Garden, Florida, she moved with her parents, the late Earl Thomas Denton and Esther Barrett Martin Denton to the Culleoka Community where she grew up and graduated from Culleoka High School. After working in Chattanooga as bookkeeper for Dr. John Hoover for two and a half years she returned to Maury County where she married George O. Smith on September 14, 1947. She took nurses' training at King's Daughters Hospital School of Nursing in Columbia. She later moved to Lewisburg to pursue her nursing career at Wheat Hospital, Brown Hospital, Gordon Hospital, Leonard Hospital, and Taylor Hospital. Mrs. Smith retired in good health and became a full-time homemaker and loved working in crafts and crocheting. She was a life-time member of the Church of Christ. Survivors include her daughter, Cynthia (Mike) Haislip of Culleoka; grandchildren, Tracie Lynn Haislip (Justin) Foster of Spring Hill and Nathan Alden Haislip of Knoxville; sister, Ozella Dugger of Culleoka; brother, Ralph Thomas Denton of Jupiter, Florida; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, George O. Smith in 2007 and a sister, Thelma Tallent. Active pallbearers are Tony Dugger, Troy Dugger, Lewis McConnell, Larry Speight, Tommy Tallent, Joe Foster, and Doug Burton. Bill Holly and Lyndal Fagan will serve as honorary pallbearers.
