Ms. Echoe Effie Palmer Walker, 99, died Monday, October 16, 2006 at Columbia Care & Rehabilitation. Graveside services will be conducted at 12 noon Thursday at John Lay Cemetery in Ethridge with Rev. Ricky Cotton officiating. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 10 - 11 a.m. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born in Cullman, Alabama the daughter of the late Wilburn R. Palmer and Nora Jane Townsen Palmer, she lived her entire life in Columbia. She was retired from Publix Shirt Company. Mrs. Walker was a member of the Church of God. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by five sisters, Nettie Seymore, Rose Hilkert, Mae Smith, Jewell Ayers, Minnie Webb Perry and four brothers, James Thomas Palmer, Brady Palmer, Jess Palmer and Bill Palmer. Pallbearers will be Lee Chumley, J.W. Cotton, Roy Ferrell, Craig Nichols, Fred Nichols, Mack Palmer and Robert Webb. A special thank you to Columbia Care & Rehabilitation where she had been a resident for many years.
