Edgar Lee Deason, 82, longtime resident of Creek Trail, died Friday May, 3, 2019 at NHC Maury Regional Transitional Care. Funeral Services for Mr. Deason will be conducted Monday at 10:00 A.M. at Oakes and Nichols Funeral Home with Brother Mike Dawson, Pastor Steve Livengood, and Pastor Rick Blevins officiating. Burial will follow in Rock Springs Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 2:00 – 6:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born December 2, 1936 in Giles County, he was the son of the late Thurman Lee Deason and the late Myrtle Ward Deason. Mr. Deason was a graduate of Columbia Central High School Class of 1955. After graduating from high school, he farmed and then worked at Martin & Vaughn in Columbia. He later retired after many years as an industrial salesman for Porter & Walker. On April 11, 1959, he married his wife, Scottie Anne Young Deason. In his early years, he attended the Bigbyville United Methodist Church. After marrying Scottie, they attended Rock Springs Baptist Church, where he was ordained as a deacon. In later years Mr. Deason attended First Family Baptist Church, where he also served as a deacon. Along with being a deacon at First Family Baptist Church, Mr. Deason served on several committees; served as a greeter, worked in the food pantry, and was proud of working with the preschool and the ministry team for shut-ins. He was a member of Quail Unlimited for several years. Mr. Deason enjoyed quail hunting and was an avid Atlanta Braves fan. His sister Paula fondly remembers him as a very happy person who was always smiling, and never complained. Above all, Mr. Deason loved the Lord and serving him and also had a deep love for his family and church family. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Scottie Anne Young Deason of Columbia; sisters Jeanette (James) Richardson of Culleoka, Paula Dooley of Columbia; a special niece, Keeley Dooley (Devin) Farmer of Columbia; nephews, Neal Richardson of Culleoka, John (Mary) Richardson of Virginia Beach, Jason (Gloria) Richardson of Lewisburg; great nieces and nephews, Alison Farmer, Garrison Farmer, Hayden Richardson, Peyton Richardson, Danielle Mayes, Tyson Mayes; friend to him and wife, Sonya Aguilar; his beloved Yorkie, Holly Ray. Pallbearers will be Garrison Farmer, Devin Farmer, John Richardson, Jason Richardson, Neal Richardson, Charles King, and Jimmy Matthews.
