Edna Benefield Lentz, 100, retired owner and operator of Variety Record Shop, died Saturday, November 11, 2023 at the Gardens of Poplar Estates in Columbia.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at 2:00 P.M. at Parkway Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Roberts officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 12:00 P.M. until the time of service at Parkway Baptist Church.

She was born on September 22, 1923 in Lawrence County, Tennessee to the late Will Benefield and the late Georgia Johnson Benefield. Earlier in life she worked for Slant & Slant Shirt Factory in Lawrence County and at Ernest Tubb #2 Record Shop in Columbia as a clerk before owning and operating Variety Record Shop on the Columbia Square for thirty years. Mrs. Lentz was a volunteer at Maury Regional Medical Center, a lifetime member of Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19 Ladies Auxiliary, life member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4969, former member of La Societe De Femme Cabane Local 1394, and former member of the Ladies of the Elk. She was a former member of Central Christian Church but in recent years was a member of Parkway Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughters, Nancy Lentz Richardson and Christie A. Lentz both of Columbia; two grandsons, Chris (Katie) Baker of Columbia and Kenny Lentz of Greenbriar, Arkansas; granddaughter, Tammy Lawton of Lena, Mississippi; great grandchildren, Landon Baker, Christian Lawton, Holt Lipscomb, Trey Lentz, and Alissa Lentz.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Curtis Lentz on September 19, 1965; son Kenneth Edward Lentz on September 8, 2023; sister Rachel Walls; two brothers, Willie Benefield and D.D. “Doc” Benefield.
Pallbearers will be Chris Baker, Landon Baker, David Priest, Jeff Benefield, Ron Long, and Keith Throneberry. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Gaylon Harris and members of Parkway Baptist Church. The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff of the Gardens at Poplar Estates and Compassus Hospice for the care.
