Mrs. Rubye Edna Mitchell Smith, 98, retired school teacher and resident of Tinsley Lane, died Tuesday, July 26, 2005 at Life Care Center. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m., Friday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Randy Owens, Jeremy Butt and Jerry Elder officiating. A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday at Scotts Hill Methodist Cemetery in Henderson County. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 4- 8 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols. In 1933 she married Roy Kelley Smith who preceded her in death November 20, 1983. She was a graduate of Scotts Hill High School and received her teaching certificate from Bethel College. She was a retired school teacher from the Carroll County School System. She was a homemaker and member of the Maury County Home Demonstration Club. Mrs. Smith was a member of West Seventh Street Church of Christ where she was a long-time member of the Virginia Parks Bible Class. Survivors include a son, John Mitchell (Wanda June Wade) Smith of Columbia; two grandchildren, Melanie Kay Smith of Nashville and Kelley Wade (Elizabeth Giles) Smith of Huntsville, Alabama; five great-grandchildren, Ashley Anne Smith, Weston Reich Smith, Luke McKittrick Smith, Zachary Albert Smith and Elissa Joy Smith all of Huntsville; and one sister, Elna Brewington of Nashville. Pallbearers will be Mark Sanders, Weston Smith, J.B. Long, Bob Martin, Terry Wilson and George Umstead. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Sweeney, Jim Putman, Dr. William Robinson, members of the Virginia Parks Bible Class at West Seventh Street Church of Christ and Elders and Deacons at West Seventh Street Church of Christ.
