Mr. Edward James "Ed" Lee, 87, retired from Maury Steel Company, died Friday, October 29, 2004 at his residence on River Heights Drive. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 10:00 a.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Eddie Rogers and Harlan Ogle officiating. Burial will be in the Haynes Cemetery with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19. The family will visit with friends after 3:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the son of the late Rush Lee and Lena Head Lee. During World War II, he served in the U. S. Army Air Corps attached to the 871st Engineer & Aviation Battalions. He was stationed in the Pacific Theatre of Operation for thirty-two months in New Guinea, as well as serving in the Philippines and Australia. Mr. Lee was currently a member of the West Seventh Street Church of Christ and former long-time member of the Culleoka Church of Christ. He operated a dairy farm for a number of years, was an avid coon hunter and member of the Coon Hunters Association of America. Survivors include his wife of fifty-eight years, Lillian Frances Ogle Lee of Columbia; a daughter, Dianne (Ray) Messick of Columbia; two sons, Douglas (Vickey) Lee of Columbia and David Lee of Pensacola, Florida; two grandchildren, Daphine (John) Simmons and Clinton Lee; a step-granddaughter, Shelley (Robert) Holt; two great-grandchildren, Matthew Simmons and Caleb Simmons; a step-great-granddaughter, Hannah Holt; a sister, Martha Lee Waggoner of Nashville; several nieces and nephews and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. He was preceded in death by a sister, Louise Lee Harrison and four brothers, Landon Lee, Elmer Lee, Ewell Lee and Jasper Lee. Active pallbearers are Edward Lee, Charles Lee, Floyd Lee, Bubba Lee, Ray Morrow, Alton Walter, Steve Miller and Clinton Lee. Honorary pallbearers include members of the Culleoka Church of Christ, West Seventh Street Church of Christ, Doctors and Staff of Maury Regional Cancer Center and Staff of Hopice of the Highland Rim.
