Edward E. "Brother" Lewis of 1030 Rolling Fields Circle, Columbia, Tennessee died January 21, 2006 at Maury Regional Hospital. He was born in Columbia, Tennessee on March 27, 1918, the son of William Sherman and Georgia Ruth Haley Lewis. He was a life long resident of Columbia and educated in the city schools. He was married to Martha Virginia "Mattyvee" Spencer Lewis on December 25, 1937. Funeral service will be Tuesday, January 24, 2006 at 2 PM at Oakes & Nichols.. The Eulogy will be delivered by Charles W. Stofel. Brother David Davidson, Brother Mike Kesler and Brother Randy Owens will officiate. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be at Oakes & Nichols Monday, January 23, 2006 from 4 to 8 PM.Memorials may be sent to the West 7th Street Church of Christ, 405 West 7th Street, Columbia, TN 38401 or to the Rose Hill Cemetery Association, P O Box 1015, Columbia, TN 38402-1015. Notes of sympathy may be sent to www.oakesandnichols.com.He was a member of West 7th Street Church of Christ where he served as church treasurer for a number of years. Mr. Lewis was the owner and operator of the Lewis Sign Service before he joined Columbia Neon Company as art director and neon and commercial sign designer. He retired in 1997 at age seventy-nine, being in the sign profession for sixty-three years. Mr. Lewis served for two years in the United States Army in World War II in the Visual Aids Centers at Camp Blanding, Florida and Fort Monroe, Virginia. He was a member of the Herbert Griffin Legion, Post 19 since 1946.In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son, only child, Terry Edward Lewis, daughter-in-law, Gayle Scivally Lewis, brother-in-law, George Eugene "Gene" Spencer, sister and brother-in-law, Ruby and Robin Cooper, and a nephew Billy Bruce Cooper.He is survived by his wife, Martha Virginia "Mattyvee" Spencer Lewis, twin grandsons, Edward "Eddie" Scivally (Kim Black) Lewis and Terry Spencer (Allison Collins) Lewis and great grandson, D. J. Holden all of Florence, Alabama, niece, Mrs. Genie Spencer (Gerald) Vaughn of Glasgow, Virginia and sister-in-law, Mrs. Stella "Missy" Spencer, of Lexington, Virginia, and niece-in-law, Rita Cooper Palmer of Cookeville, TN.Active Pallbearers are Wally Rash, J. B. Long, Charles Stofel, Wayne Lyles, Joe Don Gibbs, Vernon Pruitt, Dr. Kenneth F. Galloway, John A. Churchwell, Jimmy Black, Robert Collins, Jerry Walker, Scott Burt, Ray Burt, Ernest Keith Romine, Dr. Phil Greene, Tol Burk, Jimmy Davidson, Bob Martin, Henry Delk, Russell Gibbons, Jimmy Burcham, Any Hunter, Glenn Truelove, Shane Bradford and Tony Sowell.Honorary Pallbearers are friends, West 7th Street Church of Christ Large Auditorium Class, Columbia Neon past and present employees, past and present neighbors, Dr. John Simmons, Jerry Elder, Jeremy Butt, Elders and Deacons of West 7th Street Church of Christ, Life Care staff, everyone on the South hall of Life Care and Oakes & Nichols staff.
