View Funeral WebcastMr. Edward Eugene "Gene" White, 78, died Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at his residence on Rock Springs Road. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Randy Short officiating. Burial will be in Hardison Cemetery on Rock Springs Road. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 4 - 8 p.m. at the funeral home. On July 1, 1947 he married Mary Lou "Tooter" Chesnut White of Columbia who survives him. He was retired from Union Carbide after 37 years of service. Mr. White was a member of New Lasea Church of Christ. In addition to his wife he is survived by two daughters, Mary Jean Parks and Annie Lee (Greg) Grissom both of Columbia; three grandchildren, Debbie Parks (Kevin) Brink of Columbia, Adam Grissom of Florence, Alabama, Gina Grissom (Mike) Bryan of Columbia; and four great-grandchildren, Sydney Bryan, Tanner Bryan, Melody Brink and Alex Brink. He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Thomas Larry Parks. Pallbearers will be Adam Grissom; John Sweeney; Clay Derryberry; Andy Derryberry; Tracy Chappell; Joe Horn; Billy Dean Chesnut; Kevin Brink; Mike Bryan and Randy Fox.
