Edwin Morgan Estes, 78, retired employee of Social Security Administration, died Saturday, July 16, 2016 at his residence on McIntire Drive. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 11:00 A.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Bo Myers and Rev. Tommy Vann officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Born February 8, 1938, in Newport News, Virginia, he was the son of the late James E. "Bill" Estes and the late Grace Freeman Estes. On May 29, 1961, he married Duane Beatty Estes who preceded him in death January 4, 1990. Mr. Estes was a graduate of Mountain View High School in Fontana, North Carolina and earned his Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Austin Peay University. He proudly served his country in the U. S. Army and was a member of Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. He retired as Assistant District Manager from the Social Security Administration after thirty years service with the U. S. Government. During this time he was a very active member in many civic organizations. A former Maury Regional Auxiliary volunteer, he drove the shuttle bus for several years. He spent numerous hours at Pickwick Lake where he enjoyed boating and camping. He was a very active member and former treasurer of St. Luke United Methodist Church, where he had served in several positions throughout the years. Survivors include his daughter, Carol Estes (Shayne) Davis of Mt. Pleasant; son, Jeff (Suzanne) Estes of Santa Fe; brothers, Barry (June) Estes of Spring Hill; Rick (Mary Sutherland) Estes of Mineral, Virginia; grandchildren, Mary Grace Davis and Drew Davis, both of Mt. Pleasant; very dear friend, Barbara Barlar of Lynnville; and several nieces and nephews. Active pallbearers will be Drew Davis, Ronnie Beatty, Bill Ammons, Ben Woody, Donald "Duck" Sharp, Ed Lucas, Cecil Conner, Roy Biddy, Kenneth Pitts, and Jim Carpenter. Honorary pallbearers will include men of St. Luke United Methodist Church and McDonald's Trotwood Avenue coffee drinkers.
