Mrs. Effie Mai Potts Black, 63, resident of Dawson Drive, died Saturday, December 8, 2007 at Maury Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Wendell Allman officiating. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Effie Mai Black Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 1873, Columbia 38402. She was a member of the Church of Peace and served as superintendent of the Sunday School. Survivors include three sons, Kenneth Wayne Black of Chapel Hill, Mark Anthony Black and Timothy Paul Black of Columbia; seven sisters, Barbara Butler, Betty Mearse, Cathy (Lee) Krenz, Mary (John) McClanahan, Wanda (Bill) Morris, Patricia Pratt, and Charlene Miller, all of Columbia; five grandchildren, Sara Mai Black, Danny Lankford, Jessica Lankford, Melissa Ann Black, and Bobby Howell; several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers are Roscoe Williams, Danny Bradford, Mike Nance, Glen Hunt, Casey Wade, Dickie Voorhies, and Nickie Voorhies.
