Mr. Eldon Ray Barr, 71, retired employee of Superior Implement, died Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at his residence on the Mooresville Pike. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Bob Adair officiating. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 4 - 8 p.m. at the funeral home. He was a native of Fairfield, Illinois and a member of the Baptist Church. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War and was a member of Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. Mr. Barr was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Robert Barr and Lala Evaline Dale Barr, two sisters, Vermadell Haegele, Vergene Goin, and three brothers, Dale Barr, Robert Barr and Randall Barr. Survivors include his wife, Emilie Lou McCormick Barr of Columbia; one son, David Michael Barr of New Albany, MS; two daughters, Debra Ann Barr Thibeault of Friendswood, TX, Kimberly Rae Grooms of Columbia; two sisters, Annabelle Carter of Murfreesboro, Marcella Simpson of Fairfield, IL; seven grandchildren, Jeff Thibeault, John Thibeault, Jacqueline Thibeault, Ashley (Jesse) Sullivan, Christopher Barr, Brittany (Jeff) Seeber, Justin Grooms; five great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Murphy and Mike Ervin.
