View Funeral Webcast Eleanor Marie Potts Blackburn, 78, retired seamstress, died Sunday, March 10, 2019 at her residence on East 17th Street in Columbia. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Joel Love, Ricky Clay, and Brian Gregory officiating. Burial will follow in Scribner’s Mill Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Friday from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Born July 25, 1940 in Davidson County, she was the daughter of the late Oley Andrew Potts and the late Laura Belle O’Neal Potts. On December 14, 1957, she married the love of her life Charles Francis Blackburn who preceded her in death September 22, 2003. A very talented seamstress, Mrs. Blackburn was a former employee of WeatherTamer; and for the past twenty years, she worked from home sewing for Debbie Hix and Jodi Woods. She also enjoyed reading and flower gardening. She was a woman of strong faith, was dedicated to and loved spending time with her family and friends—to meet her was to love her. Baptized at Main Street Church of Christ in Mt. Pleasant, Mrs. Blackburn has been unable to attend for the past several years due to poor health; however, she continued to read her Bible daily and was a faithful Christian. Survivors include her sons, Ricky (Judy) Blackburn, Micky (Lesa) Blackburn, Todd (Shelia) Blackburn; daughter, Tiffany Blackburn; grandchildren, Kim (James) Workman, Brittany Blackburn, Kari Blackburn, Christopher Wood, Corey Wood, Ashley Fenwick, Brandy Diaz; great grandchildren, Hayden Lovely, Addison Workman, Weston Workman, Noah Blackburn, Adrianna Blackburn, Kaileigh Bumpass, Aiyden Bumpass, Addyson Bumpass, Amy Fenwick, Kazy Fenwick, Kaylee Diaz, Karlos Diaz; sisters, Margaret “Peggy” (Richard) Yates, Ethel Young; brother, Oley (Linda) Potts; and several nieces and nephews whom she loved greatly. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Calvin Potts; sister, Willie Laura Potts; daughter-in-law, Connie Blackburn; and grandchildren, Holley Nichole Blackburn and Jonathan Charles Blackburn. Active pallbearers will be Kevin Cook, Jo Bishop, Charlie Southern, Ramon DeJesus Mayi, Mike Fox, and Adam Southern. Honorary pallbearers will include William Osborn, Bobby Fox, Jeff Fox, Doug Johnson, Danny Johnson, Dr. Gina Graves and Dr. Hany Rezk. The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you for the loving kindness and checking on her daily to her neighbors, Danny& Doug Johnson, Charleen & Mrs. Flora Knox; and to the staff and nurses at Fresenius Dialysis Center.
