View Funeral Webcast  Eliotte Page Chamberlain, 80, retired English Teacher and former resident of Mitchell Avenue, died Wednesday, July 10, 2019 at Life Care Center of Columbia. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 11:00 A.M. in the sanctuary at First United Methodist Church with Reverend Tom Wilson, Sheila Hickman, Mason Greene, and Reverend Stacy Gonzalez officiating. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery. Friends will visit Friday from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Born December 20, 1938, in Tullahoma, Tennessee, he was the son of the late James Eliotte Chamberlain and the late Rebecca Page Chamberlain. When he was four, his family returned to Maury County where he attended McDowell Elementary School and was a 1957 graduate of Columbia Central High School. In 1961 he earned his Bachelor’s degree from Middle Tennessee State University and in 1964 he earned his Master’s degree from Peabody College. Mr. Chamberlain began his English teaching career at Santa Fe High School from 1961-1963. In 1963 he transferred to Columbia Central High School where he retired in 2002. In addition to his teaching English for 41 years, he taught bridge publicly and privately. He was an avid bridge player, devoted opera lover, enthusiastic wrestling fan, and Atlanta Braves fan. Mr. Chamberlain loved all of his students, cats, dogs, McDowell School, Columbia Central High School, Columbia Kiwanis Club, First United Methodist Church and Bruce Strother Sunday School Class. In 1951, Mr. Chamberlain became a member of First United Methodist Church, and for many years he served as usher, Sunday School teacher and attended the Bruce Strother Sunday School Class. Mr. Chamberlain was a member of the Maury County Historical Society, Columbia Kiwanis Club, Sons of the American Revolution, Sons of Confederate Veterans, James K. Polk Association, Maury County Education Association, Democratic Party (DNC and Maury County), and American Civil Liberties Union. He is survived by his adopted son, Mason Greene. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, James Eliotte Chamberlain. Active pallbearers will be Mason Greene, Philip Swentzel, David Walker, Patrick Harlan, John Oakes, Joe Graham, Chris Woods, Harold Morrison, and Amanda Sloan. Honorary pallbearers include Linda Colley, Glen Stewart, Tommy Harrison, Judge Jim T. Hamilton, Judge Bobby Sands, Dr. Ben High, Dr. James Marshall, Dr. Stan Dickerson, Ryan and Derek Pace, Dr. Victor Beck, Eddie Hickman, Rick Robinson, Joe Roberson, Cindy Johnson, Rose McClain, John Welch, Matt Uhaus, Randy Bratton, Ray Wilson, Pete Sloan, Dorothy Campbell, Claude Craig, Veneeda Jernigan, Stephen Baker, Shirley Johnson, Toots and Bill Crowder, Ralph Blaze, members of Bruce Strother Sunday School Class, Maury County Democratic Party Committee, and members of Columbia Kiwanis Club.
