Miss Bettye Camille Grimmitt Miss Elizabeth "Bettye" Camille Grimmitt, retired Maury County School teacher and former resident of Mitchell Avenue, died Tuesday, March 8, 2005, at Maury Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 noon Thursday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Ted Burleson officiating. Burial will be in Kittrell Cemetery in the Cathey's Creek Community. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Grimmitt and Susan Walker Cathey Grimmitt and grew to adulthood on her family's ancestral farm in the Cathey's Creek Community in Maury County. She was a graduate of Hampshire High School, earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Middle Tennessee State University and a Master of Science degree from Oklahoma State University at Stillwater, Oklahoma. She further studied at Peabody College and at Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Indiana. After teaching a few years in the rural schools of Maury County, she moved to Whitthorne Junior High School where she taught the last thirty-two years of her career in the Mathematics Department. Since her retirement from teaching, her interests included gardening, genealogy and government. Miss Grimmitt was a longtime member of West Seventh Street Church of Christ and was a member of the Jane Knox Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution, Maury Regional Hospital Auxiliary and the Association of University Women. Survivors include three nieces, Mrs. Alice Campbell of Spring Hill; Mrs. Sue (Don) Garner of Hampshire; Mrs. Ann Grimmitt (Jimmy) Adcox of Jonesboro, Arkansas; four nephews, Dan (Joyce) Grimmitt of Charlotte, North Carolina; Bobby (Patricia) Grimmitt, Everett (Dorothy) Grimmitt and Blair (Sandra) Pogue, all of Hampshire. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Marjorie Stout, Helen Pogue, and her twin Harriett Lucille Grimmitt; and one brother, Brown Cathey Grimmitt. Pallbearers will be Lee Grimmitt, Al Pogue, Patrick Campbell, Rick Molder, David Kirk, John Cosgrove, Tommy Liggett, and Frank Cathey. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Auditorium Sunday School Class of West Seventh Street Church of Christ.
