Elmer Rummage, 88, a long-time resident of Columbia, passed away on Monday, September 2, 2019 surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 1:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Reverend Ezell Rose officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends on Wednesday from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. and Thursday from 12:00 P.M. until service time at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to the charity of your choice. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Mr. Rummage was the son of Odie Lee and Lula Chumley Rummage. On December 17, 1949, he married his wife of 65 years, Mary Charlotte Baker Rummage, who preceded him in death October 13, 2014. Mr. Rummage was a farmer and loved working with the land all his life. He was an employee of Consolidated Aluminum for over 20 years, worked for the Maury County Highway Department, and retired from Pioneer Manufacturing. Even after he retired, he continued to garden and grow flowers for himself and the enjoyment of many others. He was also a founding member of the Maury County Mule Museum at Rippavilla. Mr. Rummage is survived by three children, Laura Rummage Rummage, Lee (Pam) Rummage, and Gene (Phylis) Rummage, six grandchildren, Nelia Lynne (Rummage) Gibson, Matthew Lee Rummage, Michael Taylor Rummage, Megan Kate Rummage, Shelby Lynn Rummage, Cristan Machell (Eric) Bolens and four great grandchildren, Kelsey Lyne Gibson, Korbin Leighton Gibson, Tegan Roundy Bolens, and Harrison Bolens. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Melvin Rummage and Roy (Edith) Rummage, sisters Mrs. Riley (Mary) Gilliam, Mrs. Ann Gilliam, Mrs. Frank (Virginia) Potts, Mrs. Johnny (Clara) Harvey, a twin sister Mrs. James (Thelma) Barnes, son-in-law Billy Glynne Rummage, grandson-in-law Tim Gibson, and a grandson William Glynne Rummage. Pallbearers for the service will be his sons Lee and Gene Rummage, grandsons Matt and Taylor Rummage, great grandson Korbin Gibson, great granddaughter, Kelsey Lyne Gibson and family friends Jimmy Guthrie and Gary Powell. Honorary pallbearers will be Ray Rummage, Tony Rummage, Randy Wright, Bobby Baker and Thomas Malugin.
