MRS. ELOISE SMITH PUGH Mrs. Eloise Smith Pugh, retired Registered Nurse and resident of the Culleoka Community, died Sunday, November 16, 2003 at the home of her daughter in Brentwood. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Tim McHenry officiating. Burial will be in the Friendship Cemetery at Culleoka. The family will visit with friends Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, P. O. Box 1212, Columbia, 38402. The Morgan County, Alabama native was the daughter of the late Lindsay Nelson Smith, Sr. and Lillie Mae Wright Smith and a member of the Culleoka Church of Christ. She was a graduate of Culleoka High School and Columbia Business College. For seventeen years Mrs. Pugh was with the Maury County Unit of the Tennessee Department of Health. She began her pursuit of a career in nursing at Metropolitan General Hospital School of Nursing and later graduated as a Registered Nurse from the Columbia State Community College School of Nursing. She served seventeen years on the Nursing Staff at Parkview Medical Center and was retired Director of Nurses at Mitchell Manor in Lebanon.She was married July 3, 1946 to Staff Sergeant James Douthitt Pugh, U. S. Army (ret). He died June 17, 2001. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Lindsay Nelson Smith, Jr. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Starling and Hamilton Sellers of Brentwood; a son and daughter-in-law, Perry and Mary Pugh of Columbia; a granddaughter, Suzanna Pugh of Columbia; two nieces, Sandra Lancaster and Gayla Tucker of Nashville and a nephew, Skip Smith of Nashville. Active pallbearers are Larry Baker, Ray Morrow, Jackie Thompson, Jimmy Thompson, Jimmy Harwell and Frankie Harwell. Honorary pallbearers include Dr. William N. Cook, Lee Hayes, Tim Flowers, Doug Burton and Elders and Deacons of the Culleoka Church of Christ.
