Mrs. Elsie Elizabeth Pierce Hughes, 78, resident of Santa Fe Pike, died Sunday, November 16, 2003, at Maury Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Billy Felker and Dorris Rader officiating. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens. The Maury County native was the daughter of the late Josh Pierce and Mattie Sue Hanvy Pierce. On December 25, 1942, she married Hilbert E. Hughes who preceded her in death on February 4, 1991. She was a member of Mooresville Pike Church of Christ. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Barbara (Jerry) Lewis and Mrs. Vicky (David) Kincaid, both of Columbia; one son, David Hughes of Columbia; six grandchildren, Libby (Tim) Luther of Santa Fe; Jimmy Lewis of Sparta; Mark (Joby) Hughes, Wade (Jessica) Kincaid, Steve Kincaid, and Stan Kincaid, all of Columbia; and six great grandchildren including Shelby Luther and Sean Luther, both of Santa Fe; Aleigha Kincaid and Blake Kincaid, both of Columbia. She was preceded in death by two sons, Jimmy Hughes and John Mark Hughes. Pallbearers will be Stan Kincaid, Steve Kincaid, Wade Kincaid, Tim Luther, Ronald Ingram, Cromer Jackson, Clifton Kelley, Wayne Morrow, Roger Toombs, Arthur Hanes, Dale Lindsey, and Doug Hethcoat. Honorary pallbearers will be Cecil Lewis, Dugin Kincaid, Dr. Shawn Reed, Dr. Moataz Toban, Oncology Staff at Maury Regional Hospital, men of Mooresville Pike Church of Christ, and former employees of Monsanto.
