Mrs. Emily Jean Breland Downs, 64, formerly of Clinton, Mississippi and resident of Columbia since 2000, died Sunday, October 24, 2004 at Maury Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 4:00 p.m. at the Pleasant Heights Baptist Church with Rev. Bob Vassar officiating. The family will visit with friends after 2:00 p.m. Monday at the church. Graveside services will be conducted Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at the Magnolia Cemetery in Charleston, Mississippi with Rev. Shelly Scallions officiating. Memorials may be made to the Pleasant Heights Baptist Church Building Fund, 2712 Trotwood Avenue, Columbia, 38401. She was a member of the Pleasant Heights Baptist Church, active in the Church Choir, Sunday School and various church committees. Survivors include her husband, Charles R. Downs, Sr. of Columbia; a daughter, Stephanie (Steve L.) Castleberry of Hampshire; a son, Charles R. (Zojaim) Downs, Jr. of Coral Gables, Florida; her parents, Rev. Lewis L. and Genophia Young Breland of Columbia, formerly of Oakland, Mississippi; seven grandchildren, Gregory Castleberry, Benjaman Castleberry, Savannah Kennedy, Samantha Castleberry, Stevie Castleberry, Charles R. Downs, III and Lance Lewis Downs. Pallbearers are Jack Bailey, Kim Seago, Peter Sierson, Harlan Kelley, Michael Alexander and Wayne Vaughn.
