Emily Jean Bratton Shepard

Emily Jean Bratton Shepard, 90, certified teacher, homemaker and resident of Hilltop Drive, died Sunday, March 14, 2021 at NHC of Columbia. A private graveside service will be held at Polk Memorial Gardens with Reverend Frank Smith and Reverend Lee Stevenson officiating. Born July 15, 1930 in Hickman County, she was the daughter of the late Arch Hubert Bratton and the late Emma Ladd Bratton. In 1951, she graduated from Austin Peay University. Mrs. Shepard loved music and had earned a music degree. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, gardening and flowers. Mrs. Shepard was a member of First United Methodist Church in Columbia. Survivors include her husband, whom she married December 29, 1951, James Benjamin Shepard of Columbia; son, Jim (Sandy) Shepard of Louisville, Kentucky; grandson, Ben (Katie) Shepard of Tampa, Florida; Dylan (Jessica) Shepard of Louisville, Kentucky; Garrison Shepard, Tristan Shepard, and Braden Shepard all of Louisville, Kentucky; and great grandchildren, Elliana Shepard, and Levi Shepard both of Louisville, Kentucky. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
