Emily Wilburn Long, 93, long time resident of Rolling Fields Circle and music teacher, died Sunday July 14, 2019 at NHC Maury Regional. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 3:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with John Vaughan officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 1:00 – 3:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born August 11, 1925 in Maury County, she was the daughter of the late James Henry Wilburn and the late Lillian Madry Wilburn. She graduated from Columbia Central High School in 1944 and went on to study voice and piano at Ward Belmont Conservatory of Music. After graduating from high school, she worked five years as a Red Cross volunteer at the Veterans Hospital in Murfreesboro and Maury County Hospital. She taught piano one year at Mynders school and then became a private piano and organ teacher for forty years. She also served as the organist for First United Methodist Church for twelve years. She was a member of the Graymere Church of Christ. Mrs. Long was involved in many organizations in the community, serving as Chaplain for Captain James Madison Sparkman Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, president for one year with the Schubert Club, member of Jane Knox Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, member of the Maury County Chapter of the APTA, member of the Terrace Garden Club, and member of the James K. Polk Memorial Association. She is survived by her husband who she married August 2, 1959, James B. Long and several cousins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Frank Wilburn and Dee Wilburn. Active pallbearers will include Jerry Walker, Fred Porter, John Smith, Bobby Bishop, Wayne Phillips, Calvin Scott, Garry Beard, and David Thomas.
