Mr. Ernest Walter King, Sr., 90, retired carpenter and resident of Williamsport Pike, died Thursday, September 4, 2008 at Rosewood Manor. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Rev. Chuck Bailey officiating. Burial will be in Arlington Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant. The family will visit with friends Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The Maury County native was the son of the late Ocie Gentry King and Claudie Bell Pipkin King and attended the Church of God of Prophecy. He was married March 27, 1937 to the former Rachel Lucille Eddlemon. Mrs. King died June 5, 2001. Survivors include his children, Betty Faye (Paul) Rayl of Murfreesboro, Richard (Sondra) King, Billy Ray (Earlene) King, R. L. (Cecelia) King, all of Columbia, and Jimmy (Sheila) King of Murfreesboro; grandchildren, Dawn (Howard) Davis of Shady Grove, Mark (Cayce) King, Michael (Johnifer) King, Rosemary (Dwayne) O"Quinn, all of Columbia, Terry King of Shady Grove, and Tracy Anderson of Williamsport; twelve great-grandchildren; brother, William King of Columbia; several nieces and nephews; and special companion of 44 years, "Sunshine" the Mule. He was preceded in death by sons, Rayburn King and Ernest W. King, Jr.; sisters, Melba Houser, Cleo Church, and Lucille Baker; brothers, Willard King and Robert King. Active pallbearers are Mark King, Michael King, Howard Davis, Dwayne O'Quinn, Terry King, and Gary Joe King. Honorary pallbearers include Thomas Melton, Jimmy Hesson, and past and present Columbia Fire Department personnel.
