MRS. ERNESTINE CHAPPELL Mrs. Ernestine McMahon Chappell, longtime resident of Maury County, died Saturday, June 7, 2003, at her residence in Orlando, Florida. A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Saturday at Riverside United Methodist Church with Rev. Garie Taylor and Rev. Ray Newell officiating. The family will visit with friends Friday from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the daughter of the late Oscar McMahon and Nola Coleman McMahon. She was married toWilliam Harold Chappell who preceded her in death April 29, 1991. She was a 1942 graduate of Columbia Central High School. She worked in both Knoxville and Nashville for Cumberland Securities, was employed by American Airlines, and retired from Bell South in Columbia after thirty years of service. Mrs. Chappell was a member of Jane Knox Chapter, DAR; Captain James Madison Sparkman Chapter, UDC; James K. Polk Association; Maury County Rose Society; and Literary Guild. She was a member of Riverside United Methodist Church. Survivors include one sister, Mary McMahon McCown of Orlando, Florida; nieces, Karen Flynn of Orlando, Florida, Carol McCown of Baltimore, Maryland; nephew, David McCown of Orlando, Florida; great niece, Jocelyn Flynn; and great nephew, Jeremy Flynn. She is also survived by a daughter by marriage, Sheila Thompson of Columbia; granddaughter, Jennifer Kalifa of Nashville; daughter-in-law, Nan Chappell of McMinnville; and grandchildren, Angela Chappell and Jeremy Chappell both of McMinnville.
