View Funeral Webcast Mrs. Ernestine Hughes Whitley, retired banker and widow of Ross A. Whitley, Jr., died Sunday, December 4, 2022 at her residence in Columbia surrounded by her family. Funeral services for Mrs. Whitley will be conducted Thursday, December 8, 2022 at 12:00 P.M. at Graymere Church of Christ with John Vaughan and Andrew Phillips officiating, Burial will follow in Polk Memoral Gardens. The family will visit with friends Thursday 10:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M. at Graymere Church of Christ. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born in the Linton Community in Davidson County, she was the daughter of the late Ernest Hughes and the late Lela Ivey Hughes. She graduated from Hay Long High School in Mt. Pleasant and Columbia Business College in Columbia. On August 9, 1958 she married Ross A. Whitley, Jr.. whom preceded her in death on October 1, 2021. Mrs. Whitley was a member of Graymere Church of Christ, a former member of the APTA, she served on the board of the Senior Citizen Board of Directors for several years, and a volunteer with the Maury County Hospital Auxiliary. She retired from the Middle Tennessee Bank, where she served as internal auditor and assistant cashier. Survivors include her son, Rick (Hope) Whitley; her grandsons who were her pride and joy that she adored, Zachary Ross Whitley and Adam Richard Whitley; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, David, Eugene, William, J.P. and Clifton Hughes and a sister, Aileen McMeen. Active pallbearers will be Zach Whitley, Adam Whitley, Eric Hughes, Stephen Hughes, Harvey McKay, and Sam Savage. Honorary pallbearers will be the Elders and Deacons of Graymere Church of Christ. The family will like to express a special thanks to Jan Glover, Kim Staggs and the doctors and staff that took care of her for many years.
