Mrs. Ethel Overstreet Hatchett, 94, retired school teacher and resident of NHC Healthcare of Columbia, died Monday, May 3, 2004 at Maury Regional Hospital. Graveside services will be conducted at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, May 12, 2004, at Lynnwood Cemetery in Lynnville with Wendell Robinson officiating. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Giles County native was the daughter of the late Rufus A. Overstreet and Louisa Foster Overstreet. On December 24, 1933 she married Claude Hatchett who preceded her in death February 9, 1963. She was a graduate of Jones High School in Lynnville then graduated from David Lipscomb College and State Teachers College in Murfreesboro. Mrs. Hatchett began her teaching career in January 1941 at Winchester and later taught at Huntland High School and in Franklin County as a homebound teacher. She also taught in Osborne, Georgia; Ooltewah, Tennessee; and Franklin County High School before retiring from East Ridge Jr. High School in Chattanooga in June 1973. She was a good friend of Columbia Academy and was a member of Graymere Church of Christ. Survivors include a daughter, Jean (Quentin) King of Spokane, Washington; one granddaughter, Jan Fennimore of Spokane, Washington; and several cousins. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Beverly Ann Hatchett, two sisters, Effie Connell, Eunice Underwood, and one brother, Eslick Overstreet.
