Ethel Potts Young, 75, former seamstress for Dixie Manufacturing and Maury Manufacturing and resident of Seavy Hight Road, died Saturday, March 23, 2019 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 10:00 A.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Ricky Clay officiating. Burial will follow in Scribners Mill Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Friday from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Born March 29, 1943 in Maury County, she was the daughter of the late Oley Andrew Potts, Sr. and the late Laura Belle O’Neal Potts. On September 1, 1972, she married Horace Carlton “Bowdy” Osborn who preceded her in death April 24, 1986. On June 23, 1987, she married James Isaac Young who preceded her in death December 2, 1992. She was a 1961 graduate of Columbia Central High School. An excellent seamstress, Mrs. Young loved to sew, smock, make quilts, and crochet. Over the years, she has made a quilt for all of her grandchildren, made smocking for all of her nieces and nephews, and crocheted blankets for the neo-natal unit at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital. She enjoyed reading, country music, especially Chris Young, and going to the TDR Country every week. Mrs. Young attended Scribner’ s Mill Church of Christ. Survivors include her children, Penny Covington of Culleoka; Charles (Tammy Carol) Southern of Culleoka; Laura (Ramon Mayi) Huckabay of Columbia; William C. “Bo” Osborn of Culleoka; step-daughter, Tammy Lynn (Terry) Priest of Cookville; sister, Margaret “Peggy” (Richard) Yates of Columbia; brother, Oley Andrew (Linda) Potts, Jr. of Conroe, Texas; grandchildren, Darnell (Elizabeth) Covington, Rebecca (Zach) Rodriguez, Adam (Kayla) Southern, Jay Huckabay, Heather Huckabay, Mary Huckabay, Charlie Smith, Dustin Smith; great grandchildren, Zoey Covington, Izayah Rodriguez, Jacob Dale Chun, Ryan Huckabay, Dean Connelly, Elijah Robinson; sisters-in-law, Doris (Roger) King, Hester Smith, Kathy Gilliam; brother-in-law, W.C. Young; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Willie Laura Potts, Marie Blackburn; brother, Calvin Potts; and son-in-law, Chuckie Franklin. Active pallbearers will be Kevin Cook, Tim Morton, Micky Blackburn, Adam Southern, Darnell Covington, and Joe Bishop. Honorary pallbearers include friends from TDR Country.
