Eugene Finley "Eggshell" Aydelotte, 86, retired employee of E. I. DuPont and resident of Porter Circle, died Monday, January 22, 2018, at Life Care Center of Columbia. The family will celebrate his life and visit with friends Sunday from 4:00 - 6:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born June 29, 1931 in Maury County, he was the son of the late Frank Aydelotte and the late Mary Louise McKee Aydelotte. The 1949 graduate of Columbia Central High School attended East Central Junior College in Decatur, MS, University of Texas in Austin, TX, University of Tennessee in Nashville, TN and RCA Institute in New York City, NY. He served as an aircraft mechanic with the U. S. Army, 424 Field Artillery Battalion in Korea from 1953 - 1955. His career as an Instrument Technician with E. I. DuPont in Old Hickory spanned over twenty-five years; and he was employed fifteen years as a Systems Technician with Champion/International Paper in Pensacola, FL. A commercial pilot with a CFII rating, he was President of Aydelotte Aviation, Inc. in Springfield, TN for many years. He was also a NAUI and PADI scuba diver with open water and cave diving ratings. Mr. Aydelotte was a Past Master of Goodlettsville Lodge F&AM 272, Columbia Lodge 31 F&AM, and a lifetime member of the American Legion. Survivors include his wife whom he married April 24, 1999, Joan Kirk Brown Aydelotte of Columbia; son, James Douglas Aydelotte of Coleman, TX; step-daughter, Becky Brown Davis of Woodstock, GA; step-son, Watt "Pete" Brown of Lewisburg; and four step grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Frank Aydelotte, William Randal "Pete" Aydelotte, J. A. Aydelotte, Maydel Hickman, Sally Hill, Polly Busher, Jane LaCroy, Dorothy Mellard, Mary Soul, and Sue Harris.
