Eugene Milton Newman

Mr. Eugene Milton Newman, 77, professional musician and resident of Academy Court, died Monday, April 7, 2008 at Maury Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Thursday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Joe Rhodes officiating. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. A native of Vicksburg, Mississippi, he was the son of the late Benjamin Virgil Newman and Mildred Nesom Newman. Mr. Newman was a talented woodwind musician and had taught private lessons at Whittthorne Middle School and Central High School. He played with numerous bands, including the Glenn Miller Band in the 1960's. Survivors include his wife, Ann Elizabeth Arrants Newman of Columbia and one daughter, Melanie Newman of Nashville.
