View Funeral WebcastEvelyn Thurman Lovett of Columbia, Tennessee passed away on Sunday, October 16, 2016 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Julia and Earl Pettus, where she had made her home for the past 14 years. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Everett Campbell officiating. Private family burial will be held at Jones Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 1:00 P.M. until service time at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to New Lasea Church of Christ Building Fund, 1570 Lasea Road, Columbia, TN 38401 or Highland Park Baptist Church Music Department, 1800 Highland Avenue, Columbia, TN 38401. Mrs. Lovett was born June 3, 1923 in the community of Frye Branch in Giles County, Tennessee to the late Robert and Willie Mae Hammond Thurman. On August 20, 1942 she married William Ellis Lovett and their 61 year marriage ended with his death January 4, 2004. She is survived by her daughter, Julia and son-in-law, Earl Pettus who she loved like a son; son, Eddie Lovett and his wife, Donna; granddaughters, Heather Lovett, Merri Rundle, and Elizabeth (Sammie) McCanless; grandson, Richard (Judy) Pettus; great grandsons, Greg Carte, Gunnar Pettus, Brady McCanless, Colby Rundle; great granddaughters, Casey Carte (Lonnie Martin), Breanna (Payton) Bean, Aylessa Lovett, Breanna English, and Karsyn McCanless; four great great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, June (Tom) Bills, Angie (Valton) Martin, Shirley (Charles) Rankin, Martha Osborne; several nieces and nephews; and special pet "Maddie" who saw her to bed each night. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Todd Caruthers; granddaughter, Deborah Haddock; siblings Raymond Thurman, Louise Allen, Robert Thurman, Jr. and William Howard Thurman. Mrs. Lovett was a member of New Lasea Church of Christ and was a Gold Star member of Herbert Griffin American Legion Auxiliary Unit 19. Pallbearers will be James Patterson, Ralph Saltz, Billy Chesnut, Dewayne Hickman, W.L. Culberson, and George Jones. Honorary pallbearers will be Tom Bills, Dewayne Carte, Greg Carte, Sammie McCanless, Richard Pettus, Terry Davis, Dennis White, and Unit 19 American Legion Auxiliary. The family would like to express a special thanks to Georgia McCaleb, Helena Morais, Hospice Compassus nurse, Christy Dickey and aide Tikeya Johnson.
