Ewing Edward Neelley, Sr., well known Church of Christ minister, retired employee of Barr Motor Company, and resident of Crestland Drive, died Monday, September 26, 2016 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2:00 P.M. at New Lasea Church of Christ with Kenny McFarlen, Wayne Hardison, and John Vaughan officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery with military honors provided by the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19. The family will visit with friends Tuesday after 4:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home and Wednesday from 12:00 noon until service time at the church. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the son of the late James Drake Neelley and Bertha Mae Beard Neelley. He was a 1942 graduate of Columbia Central High School. He served in the United States Army during World War II. Mr. Neelley was retired from Barr Motor Company where he had worked as a service manager for forty-one years. He was well-known Church of Christ minster where he had preached at Scribner's Mill Church of Christ, Cedar Hill Church of Christ, New Lasea Church of Christ and Bethel Church of Christ. He was a member of New Lasea Church of Christ where he served as an Elder. He enjoyed farming and woodworking. Survivors include his wife, whom he married September 22, 1945, Juanita Smith Neelley of Columbia; sons, Ed (Rosalinda) Neelley of Falling Water, West Virginia; and Jim (Dana) Neelley of Franklin; grandchildren, Jason Neelley, Ewing Neelley, III, Rachel Neelley, Ryan Neelley, Curry Long, and Blake Neelley; great grandchildren, Neelley Long, Maddie Long, and Charlotte Long; and brother, John William (Yvonne) Neelley of Clinton, Mississippi. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sisters, Louise Neelley, Florene Lambert, and Christine Waller. Active pallbearers will be Ryan Neelley, Blake Neelley, Ewing Neelley, III, Russ Long, David Neelley, and John William Neelley, Jr. Honorary pallbearers include Elders and Deacons of New Lasea Church of Christ.
