Ewing Patterson "Pat" Troope, Jr., 75, retired Assistant Chief at Columbia Police Department and retired Director of Security at Maury Regional Medical Center, died Sunday, October 8, 2017 at his residence in Columbia. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 11:00 A.M. at Highland Park Baptist Church with Pastor Mark Proctor, Reverend Terry Perry, and Reverend Wilson Henderson officiating. Honors will be provided by the Columbia Police Department Honor Guard. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 4:00- 8:00 P.M. and Wednesday from 10:00 - 11:00 A.M. at the church. Oakes & Nichols Funeral Directors are assisting the family with arrangements. Born April 9, 1942 in Maury County, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Ewing Patterson Troope, Sr. and the late Floy Edwards Troope. He was a 1964 graduate of Columbia Central High School and served in the National Guard from 1959-1964. Mr. Troope worked for the Columbia Fire Department for 5 years and Assistant Chief at Columbia Police Department for 25 years, before retiring in 1997. After retirement, he was Director of Security at Maury Regional Medical Center for 16 years. He was a member of Highland Park Baptist Church, Worshipful Master of the Columbia Masonic Lodge, the Tennessee Law Enforcement Officers Association, and Fraternal Order of Police, where he was secretary for 11 years. Survivors include his wife, whom he married January 15, 1965, Janice Prince Troope, of Columbia; children, Michelle (David) Roachelle of Columbia; Scott (Andrea) Troope of Columbia; Jennifer (Skip) Spencer of Columbia; brother, Harold (Kathleen) Troope of Nashville; and grandchildren, Chelsey Ferguson; Bayleigh Woods; Patterson Troope; Austin Troope; and Will Spencer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his twin sister, Alice Overby; sister, Mary Jane Vogler; brother, Kenneth Troope.Active pallbearers will be Barney Burns, Don Craft, Kenneth Lovett, Rose Stegall, Buddy Boane, Roger Peters, Marvin Ricketts, and John Collier. Honorary pallbearers include former and active members of Columbia Police Department and Columbia Fire Department, member of "Old Coots" adult men's Sunday School Class at Highland Park Baptist Church, Steve and Cindy Collins, Berrie Boyd, Jackie Gibbs, Maury Regional Medical Center Security Department, Billy Ray King, Darlene Baxter, and Ronnie and Lynn Erwin.
