Mrs. Fannie Sue Stone Harlan, 89, long-time resident of the Williamsport Pike, died Sunday, April 20, 2008 at Woodcrest at The Blakeford in Green Hills. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church with Dr. Jim Hughes, Rev. Melinda Britt and Rev. Frank Smith officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 9 - 11 a.m. at the church. The Maury County native was the daughter of the late Gordon Stone and Mattie Sue Fraser Stone. She was a 1936 graduate of Central High School. That same year she married Howard Leon Harlan, Sr. who preceded her in death June 7, 1991. Mrs. Harlan was a member of the James K. Polk Association; Association for the Preservation of Tennessee Antiquities; Tenasse Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution; Captain James Madison Sparkman Chapter, United Daughters of the Confederacy; Magna Carta Dames, Trotwood Garden Club, and the Maury County YMCA. She was a charter member of the Brentwood Garden Club and loved flower arranging and gardening. She had a great love of peacocks which she raised at her home, Skipwith Hall. Mrs. Harlan was a member of First United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Ayers-Whitney Sunday School Class and was active in the Women's Circle and the Young at Heart. Survivors include her daughter, Susan Harlan of Franklin; two sons, Howard Leon (Linda) Harlan, Jr. of Nashville, Steve (Linda W.) Harlan of Franklin; two grandchildren, Howard Leon (Kathryn) Harlan, III and Eleanor Suzanne Harlan both of Nashville; and two great-grandchildren, Madeline Eleanor Harlan and Charles Matthew Harlan both of Nashville. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Hubert Roan Stone and John Gordon Stone. Pallbearers will be Richard James, Ed Harlan, Patrick Harlan, Al Harlan, Gordon McDaniel and Harvey Butler.
