Fate Thomas Hanvy, 78, retired forklift operator for Samsonite, died Sunday, December 4, 2022 at his residence in Columbia. A memorial service will be conducted Saturday at 5:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Reverend David Buffaloe officiating. The family will visit with friends Saturday from 1:00 P.M. until service time at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD, 21741. Mr. Hanvy never met a stranger, loved spending time with his grandchildren, woodworking, traveling to the Gulf Coast, and eating. He was a member of Riverview Baptist Church. Survivors include his daughter, Cissy (Chris) Oliver of Christiana; grandchildren, Chad (Jessica) Oliver, Lyndsey Hanvy, Anthony Duran, Sebstian Salas, Willa Williamson; great granddaughter, Emma Mai Oliver; special friend, Lorenza Hanvy of Columbia; step-children, Crystal Plataka, Lacy Dressell; sisters, Betty Pilkinton and Josephine Johnson; special brother-in-law: Billy “Main Man” Pilkinton; and special nephew: Kenny Hanvy, also several other nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Tommy Ray Hanvy; sister, Louise Hanvy; brother, Herman L. Hanvy, Jr Honorary pallbearers include members of Riverview Baptist Church.
