Flora May Yarbrough Currie, 92, retired Director for Adult Literacy at Allen Parrish Library in Louisiana, died Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 1:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with her sons Rev. William Currie and Rev. Keith Currie officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Saturday from 10:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Born May 28, 1926 in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of the late James Oliver Yarbrough and the late Nancy Elizabeth Newton Yarbrough. She was married to William C. Currie who preceded her in death March 28, 1991. A former life insurance agent with Davis & Sharpton Insurance in Columbia, Mrs. Currie returned to Columbia a few years ago after living several years in Louisiana. An avid sports fan, she loved the Atlanta Braves and enjoyed watching her grandchildren play ball. Mrs. Currie was a very devout Christian, and loved reading and studying her Bible daily. She was a loving wife, proud mother and grandmother, and trusted friend. She was a member of Cross Country Cowboy Church. Survivors include her sons, Rev. William (Toni) Currie of Pineville, LA and Rev. Keith (Patricia) Currie of Mobile, AL; daughter, Fran (Jeff) Tyson of Columbia; sister, Mildred Beasley of Oak Ridge; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-four great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Cicero Yarbrough, Willard Yarbrough, Cullen Yarbrough, James Dawson Yarbrough, and her twin sister Nora Yarbrough Gibson. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
