Foster Thurman, 86, retired truck driver for Allman Construction and resident of Sowell Mill Pike, died Thursday, September 22, 2016 at Signature Health Care of Columbia. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 1:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Jeremy Butt officiating. Burial will follow in Lynnwood Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born June 30, 1930 in Giles County, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Webster W. Thurman and Annie Mai Foster Thurman. For thirty-four years he owned and operated Thurman Trucking. He was an excellent mechanic who could drive and fix anything. Mr. Thurman was a member of Northview Church of Christ. His greatest joy was spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Survivors include his wife whom he married January 14, 1949, Jean Reeves Thurman of Columbia; daughter, Judy Thurman (Terry) McCaleb of Columbia; son, Randal Foster Thurman of Columbia; special great grandson they helped rear, Brent McCaleb; grandchildren, Tim McCaleb, Jason (Dawn) McCaleb, Gabriel (Sherry) Hay, David Thurman, and Eric Thurman; eighteen great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Laverna Boatright; brothers, Wilkins Thurman, Billy Thurman, Clayton "Buck" Thurman, and Morris Thurman. Active pallbearers are Tim McCaleb, Jason McCaleb, David Thurman, Eric Thurman, Carlton Thurman, and James Berry. Honorary pallbearers include his life-long fellow truck drivers. The family would like to express a special thanks to Dr. Gaylon Harris and his staff, the staff of Signature Health Care of Columbia especially the South East Hall, and the staff of Compassus.
