View Funeral Webcast Mrs. Frankie Lee Jones Holder, 92, retired teacher and former long-time resident of Chapman Lane in Columbia, died Saturday, May 15, 2010 in Decatur, Alabama where she made her home the past few years. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Reverend Billy Kimbrough officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Notes of sympathy may be sent to oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the daughter of the late John Nicholson Jones and Nora Lee Speed Jones. She attended Andrews and McDowell schools and was a 1936 graduate of Columbia Central High School. After teaching at Union Grove, Darks Mill, and Santa Fe schools, she returned to college and earned her B.A. degree in Education from Austin Peay State University in 1954 and her M. A. degree in Administration and Supervision from George Peabody College in 1956. She returned to the classroom and taught 10 years at Andrews Elementary School and 19 years at Baker Elementary School from which she retired after a 33 year career with the Maury County Board of Education. She was a member of the Steering Committee responsible for attaining accreditation for Baker Elementary School as the first elementary school in Maury County so designated by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. For 12 years, she worked with the Columbia Parks and Recreation Department teaching arts and crafts in the Baker Summer School Program. Mrs. Holder was a Life Member of the National Education Association and Maury County Retired Teachers Association. She won numerous National and State awards for her dedicated work for the National Child Welfare Foundation, and was honored with the highest award given for being the leading Regional Action Team Member in the Nation. Active in civic and community affairs, she was a member since 1954 of the Columbia Business and Professional Women's Club and charter member of the Maury County Creative Arts Guild. A Life Member of the American Legion Auxiliary, classified as a VIM Member, she was recognized as Outstanding Member of the Year, 1980-1981 and Outstanding District President in 1981-1982. Mrs. Holder was a long-time active member of First Baptist Church in Columbia and taught Sunday School for a number of years. While living in Gardendale, Alabama her membership was with Pineywood Baptist Church. She was married March 22, 1940 to Robert Davis Holder who preceded her in death January 11, 1992. Survivors include her sons, John Davis (Brenda) Holder of Knoxville and James Robert (Doris) Holder of Decatur, Alabama; granddaughters, Andrea (Steve) Orlando of Brooklyn, New York, Tabitha (Alex) Siqueira of Pelham, Alabama; Rebekah (Brett) Reach of Gardendale, Alabama; Christina (Eric) Holder of Moreno Valley, California; grandsons Jonathan (Harriet) Holder of Franklin; Timothy Holder of Pinson, Alabama; great-granddaughter, Vitoria Siqueira of Pelham, Alabama; and great-grandson, Logan Reach of Gardendale, Alabama. Active pallbearers are Timothy Holder, Brett Reach, Alex Siqueira, Ken Baltzer, Roger Witherow, and Charlie Norwood. Honorary pallbearers are Jonathan Holder, Steve Orlando, American Legion Auxiliary, and Maury County Retired Teachers Association.
