Mr. Leon Hinson, 79, a resident of Denise Drive, died Monday, February 14, 2022 at his residence. Graveside services for Mr. Hinson will be conducted Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at Polk Memorial Gardens with Brother Howard Kitter officiating. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born June 1, 1942 in Maury County, he was the son of the late Osbie Hinson and the late Myrtle Irene Matlock Hinson. He was a graduate of Central High School Class of 1960 and served in the U.S. Naval Reserve for one year. For 59 years he was married to Georgene Hedrick Hinson whom he married September 7, 1962. He worked for Publix shirt factory for numerous years and went on to work for American Greeting in Franklin where he retired after 18 years. Mr. Hinson was an avid sports fan and enjoyed collecting Case knives and Civil War memorabilia. He enjoyed playing softball, bowling, golfing, baseball, loved fishing and going to auction sales. Mr. Hinson was a lifetime member of Fruit of The Vine and was of the Baptist faith. In addition to his wife Georgene, he is survived by his son, Robert Keith (Elizabeth Ann) Hinson of Columbia; daughter, Deborah Dawn (Keith) Poarch of Columbia; sister, Martha Tomlin (James Roland) of Columbia; brother, Roger (Sandra) Hinson of Columbia; grandchildren, Bethany Hinson, Patrick (Kinsey) Ray, Elizabeth Ray, Kaitlyn (Ethan) Kitter, and Ryleigh Poarch; six great grandchildren, six step grandchildren and eleven step great grandchildren. Family & friends will serve as pallbearers.
