MR. FRED FAIRCHILD, JR. Mr. Fred L. Fairchild, Jr., 81, retired employee of Union Carbide and resident of Lyon Street, died Thursday, September 19, 2002, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 1:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Wallace and Rev. James Gardner officiating. Burial will be in Santa Fe Cemetery with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Friday from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. with a Masonic service held at 7:00 P.M.,at the funeral home. The Pensacola, Florida native was the son of the late Fred L. Fairchild, Sr. and Ethel Love Jackson Fairchild. He was a veteran of World War II having served with General Patton. He was a member of Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19, a fifty year member of Benton Lodge, a 32nd Degree Scottish-Rite Mason, a Shriner and a fifty year member of the Order of Eastern Star. He was a member of Craft Memorial United Methodist Church where he served as president of the Fellowship Sunday School Class for many years. Survivors include his wife, Vada Hensley Fairchild of Columbia; step-daughter, Linda H. Blankenship of Lewisburg; sisters, Marguerite Holder and Georgie Keeto; brother, Charles W. Fairchild; and brother-in-law, Walker (Betty) Huey of Nashville. Mr. Fairchild was preceded in death by his first wife, Willie Bea Huey Fairchild and step-grandson, Charles Brent Blankenship. Pallbearers will be members of Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19.
