Freddie Gene Cothron

Freddie Gene Cothron, 51, former employee of the City of Columbia Sanitation Department, died Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at his residence on Academy Street. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Friday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Brother Curtis Dowdy officiating. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the son of Betty Jean Duncan Cothron Elliott of Columbia and the late Looney Fulton Cothron. He had worked several years for H. G. Hills and Harris Foodland before employment at the City of Columbia Sanitation Department. He coached Farm League Baseball and loved the Dallas Cowboys. Mr. Cothron was a member of the Church of Christ. In addition to his mother he is survived by his stepfather, William H. (Bill) Elliott of Columbia; one daughter, Melissa Gail Cothron (Cameron) Howard of Columbia; two brothers, William Fulton "Bill" (Diane Kelley) Cothron and Ronald Dwayne (Karen Sue) Cothron, both of Columbia; one sister, Patsy Jean Cothron (Vance) Capley of Columbia; four nephews, Jim (Cory) Kelley of England; Ryan Fulton Cothron and Steven Alexander Capley, both of Columbia; Adam "Bo" (Jenni) Payton of Mt. Pleasant; two nieces, Lillian Grace Capley of Columbia, Becky (Greg) Cooper of Mt. Pleasant; special great niece, Kaley Cooper of Mt. Pleasant; two aunts, Christine Lovett and Elaine Chunn Hood, both of Columbia; and several cousins. Pallbearers will be Ryan Fulton Cothron, Vance Capley, Mark Jones, Bobby Hedrick, Don Howard, Michael Stewart, Kevin Burns and Greg Cooper. Honorary pallbearers will be Matthew Hodge, past and present employees of Harris Foodland, H. G. Hills, and the City of Columbia Sanitation Department.
