Mr. Gardner Howard, 87, retired farmer and resident of Lady Diana Dr., died Sunday, March 2, 2008 at Centennial Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Gardner officiating. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 1 - 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the son of the late Joseph Michael Howard and Emma Gardner Howard. On July 15, 1944 he married Edna Lorraine Primm Howard who preceded him in death August 16, 2006. Mr. Howard was a former longtime resident of the Water Valley Community. He enjoyed hunting and was a member of Goshen United Methodist Church. Survivors include a daughter, June Howard of Columbia; two granddaughters, Angela (Doug) Sherrod of San Antonio, Texas, Michelle (Tony) Thomas of Gallatin; four great-grandchildren, Ryan Sherrod, Rebecca Sherrod both of San Antonio, TX; Jesse Thomas, Wesley Thomas both of Gallatin; three nephews, Milton (Judy) Paul of Kingsport, Charlie (Lucy) Paul of Antioch, Gentry (Gloria) Paul of Ringgold, Georgia; 3 great nephews; 2 great nieces; and several great-great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Eleanor Howard Paul. Pallbearers will be Travis Warf, J.B. Fitzgerald, Larry Fox, Marion Sewell, Larry Adkison and Jerry Gardner. Honorary pallbearers will be Andy Dial, Larry Warren, Ronald Montgomery, Glenn Ferrell, Dr. Ben Gardner and neighbors on Lady Diana Drive.
