Elizabeth Gayle Petty Owens, 78, retired office manager for Dr. Sam Kuykendall, died Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at her residence surrounded by her family.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, June 1, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Pastor Brandon Abbott officiating.  Burial will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens.  The family will visit with friends Friday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and Saturday from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the funeral home.  Online condolences may be extended at www.oakesandnichols.com.

Gayle was born on June 27, 1945 in Maury County to the late Fred Johnson Petty and the late Christine Gibson Petty.  She graduated from Columbia Central High School in 1963.  On November 26, 1965 she married Douglas MacArther Owens who preceded her in death on April 29, 2002.  Gayle most recently attended The Church at West End.

Gayle enjoyed having lunch with friends, trying to solve the world’s problems while getting her nails done at Clique’s Salon, watching the deer from her back porch, drinking Starbucks lattes, and, most of all, spending time with her family, particularly her daughters and her only granddaughter, who she described as the “light in my life”.

Survivors include her daughters Tara (James) Gibson and Andrea (Gabe) Polk, both of Columbia; granddaughter, Lily Polk; brother, Larry (Sue) Petty; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Ben Lyles, Matt Wyatt, Ansley Hamilton, Justin Hamilton, Drew Parker and Griffin Polk.
