Mrs. Gene CornMrs. Gene Wilkins Corn, 87, a longtime resident of Columbia, died Monday, April 11, 2005, in Jackson, Tennessee.The family will receive friends Thursday from 1:30 P.M. - 2:30 P.M. in the Fellowship Hall of First United Methodist Church. A memorial service will follow at 3:00 P.M. in the church sanctuary with Rev. Frank Smith, Rev. Jeff Jacob, and Dr. Jim Hughes officiating. A private graveside service will be conducted at Rose Hill Cemetery with Rev. Jeff Jacob officiating. Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. She graduated from Columbia Central High School. She attended Sophie Newcomb and graduated from Peabody College.She was a beloved school teacher in Columbia for over thirty years and was an avid bridge player. She was a lifetime member of First United Methodist Church and was in the Ayers-Whitney Sunday School Class. Gene brought joy to all who knew her and spent her life doing for others. She was married to Dick Corn for sixty-two years and was a wonderful wife and mother. Survivors include two daughters, Linda (Larry) Homesley of Jackson; Kathie Denson of Columbia; one son, Rob (Marcie) Corn of Birmingham; nine grandchildren; and three great granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dick Corn; and her son-in-law, Dr. Eddie Denson. Pallbearers will be Rob Corn, Larry Homesley, Lane Denson, Clark Denson, Spencer Corn, Peter Corn, Greg Petrinjak, Dale Conder, and Ryan McWhorter. Honorary pallbearers will be Mr. & Mrs. Cam Anderson, Mr. & Mrs. Jim Lester, Mr. & Mrs. Cal McIntosh, Mr. & Mrs. Glen Kennemer, Mr. & Mrs. Ray Porter, Mr. & Mrs. Harlan Bowsher, Mrs. Wanda Turner, and the members of the Ayers -Whitney Sunday School Class.
