George Allen Clanton

Mr. George Allen Clanton of Columbia, Tennessee, 92, died on January 12, 2024, at Meadowbrook Nursing Home in Pulaski, Tennessee.

He was born on August 23, 1931, at his childhood home in Limestone County, Alabama. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great great-grandfather. He is preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Ross Clanton and Ruby Sarah Lou Clanton, and brother Bobby Wayne Clanton.

He graduated from Limestone High School in Limestone County, Alabama. He married the love of his life, Shirley Geneva Wright, on June 18, 1955. They celebrated 68 years of marriage in June. They moved to Columbia Tennessee in 1957 where he was employed at Hooker Chemical Company / Occidental Chemical Company, for almost 33 years. At the time of his retirement, he was a supervisor in the maintenance department. After his retirement, he went to work at his son’s business, George A. Clanton Construction and Paving. He enjoyed his job driving the dump trucks to construction and paving sites. Later, he went to work for Larry Richardson at Advance Paving Co., driving the dump truck and training other drivers until he quit at the age of 86. He set a good example for his children to be hard workers and family oriented. He loved going on motorcycle trips to the mountains or just riding it in town. He enjoyed going to the beach with family and friends and enjoyed metal-detecting on the beach. He loved fishing, riding on the pontoon boat, camping with his children and friends or later in life, going to the lake and sitting on the porch.

Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. followed by a memorial service at 11:30 a.m. on January 27, 2024, at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home, 320 West Seventh St, Columbia, TN 38401.

Survivors include wife, Shirley Clanton of Columbia Tennessee; sister, Elaine Roman (Paul) of Ohio; sister in-law, Kathy Wright of Georgia; children, Sheree Prince (James), George Anthony Clanton (Donna), Beverly Johnson (Derek), David Clanton (Libby), Phillip Clanton (Pam), and Shawn Clanton (Cassie). Also, the grandchildren of Mr. Clanton are Honey Williams, Tiffany Kasmarcik, Bethany Thacker, Ben Clanton, Layla Thompson, Tessa Johnson, Matthew Clanton, Elizabeth Wimmer, Hunter Clanton, Kayela Mixon, Kerri Sweeney, Julian Clanton, and Ethan Polk. Also, a lot of great-grandchildren and several great great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
