Video Memories of Mr. George Armstrong, Sr. Mr. George Martin Armstrong, Sr., 91, retired farmer, died Sunday, May 29, 2005 at his life-long residence on the Hampshire Pike. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Joseph Rhodes and Jeremy Butt officiating. Burial will be in Maury County. Visitation will be Wednesday from 12:00 Noon to 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A descendant of pioneer Maury County settlers, he was born June 29, 1913 to the late William Clay Armstrong and Margaret Pearson Armstrong in the ancestral homeplace established in 1807, and in which he resided until his death. He attended Columbia Central High School and was a member of the West Seventh Street Church of Christ. He was married in June, 1946 to the former Patricia Wade, who died May 5, 1998. Additionally, he was preceded in death by a son, George Martin "Jack" Armstrong, Jr. and two brothers, W. C. Armstrong and Tommy Newton Armstrong. He is survived by a nephew, John Wade and a special friend and caregiver, Olivia Whiteside. Active pallbearers are John Wade, Randy Rummage, Paul Whiteside, Terry Whiteside, Gerald "Pete" Brooks, Jerry Donovan, Timmy Donovan and Kenny Manire. Honorary pallbearers include Sam & Nina Whiteside and family, Everett and Dot Grimmitt, Jack Hudson, Joe and Irene Mathers, Jimmy Mays, Phillip and Pam McDonald, Louise Brooks, Dorothy Jones, Faye Perkins, Dr. James Slandzicki, Staff of Hospice of The Highland Rim, and West Seventh Street Church of Christ 3rd grade Leaderettes, their families and teachers.
