George Washington Kittrell, 86, former owner and operator of George Kittrell Machinery Sales and Liquidation and resident of Columbia, died Tuesday, November 29, 2016, at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 11:00 A.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with David Morris officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Wednesday after 4:00 P.M. concluding with a Masonic Service at 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born March 24, 1930 in Williamson County, he was the son of the late Harry L. Kittrell and the late Gladys Hay Kittrell. On October 19, 1962, he married Sally Carroll Kittrell; and they have celebrated fifty-four years of marriage. Mr. Kittrell was a graduate of Hay Long High School and attended Middle Tennessee State University. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict. In addition to owning his own business, he was an auctioneer for several years. Mr. Kittrell was an avid fisherman and woodworker. A Scottish Rite mason, York Rite mason, and Shriner, he was a member of Hiram Lodge #7 in Franklin. He was a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans and Highland Church of Christ. In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, Zach (Allison) Kittrell of Columbia; Robert C. Patterson of Columbia; daughters, Diane (Larry) Price of Columbia; Jacqueline Kittrell of Spring Hill; Vickie Lynn (Dale) Gann of Peachtree City, GA; grandchildren, Jason Campbell, Adam Campbell, Jennifer Patterson, Summer Kittrell Gray, Peyton Kittrell Barron, Dylan Cates, Mariah Kittrell, Amity Bechenbach, Michael D. Flener, Traci Gann Wombough; fourteen great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Buddy Kittrell; sister, Evelyn Chabot; grandson, Robert C. Patterson, Jr.; and great grandson, Robert Cates. Active pallbearers will be Jacob Campbell, Sam Gray, Robby Barron, Benjamin Wombough, Greg Wombough, Ryan Cates, Samuel Wombough, and Jason Campbell. Honorary pallbearers will include Eddie Wayne Thomas, Faye Davis, Dustin Campbell, and Adam Campbell.
