View Video Tribute View Funeral Webcast Gladys Marie Smith Olive, 90, retired employee of General Electric and resident of Columbia, died Monday, June 18, 2018, at Brookdale Senior Living Columbia. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 11:00 A.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with John Vaughan and Jack Malone officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 5:00 - 8:00 P.M. and Wednesday from 10:00 - 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to Columbia Academy, 1101 West Seventh Street, Columbia, TN 38401 or Graymere Church Missions Fund, 1320 Trotwood Avenue, Columbia, TN 38401. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born June 13, 1928 in Waterloo, Alabama, she was the daughter of the late Homer Emmett Smith and the late Lessie Tilley Smith. A longtime member of Graymere Church of Christ, she was a former Children's Sunday School teacher, active in the Clothes Closet and Meals on Wheels, and enjoyed traveling with the Senior Citizens group. Survivors include her daughter, Delisa (Dennis) Cofer of Culleoka; sons, David (Connie) Olive of Rogersville, AL and Jerry (Glenda) Olive of Columbia; sister, Luvinia (Lee) Watkins of Auburn, AL; brothers, William "Bill" Smith of Florence, AL and Larry (Brenda) Smith of Chatham, IL; grandchildren, Michael (Leah) Olive, Matthew (Chandler) Olive, Jessica (Will) Leesburg, Petty Officer, First Class Kristin Olive, Dustin Olive, Andrew Cofer; eleven great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Shirley Smith, Doris Smith, Christine Phillips, Margaret Olive; several nieces and nephews; and many special friends that she considered family. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Della Hanback, Lloyd Smith, Grady Smith, Ellie Smith, and Charlene Pittman. Active pallbearers will be Michael Olive, Matthew Olive, Will Leesburg, Steve Watkins, Brent Smith, Robert Smith, and Ryan Olive. Honorary pallbearers will include Andrew Cofer, Hudson Olive, Graymere Church of Christ Elders & Deacons and Seniors.
