Glenn Doak Ferrell, 86, retired owner/operator of Murfreesboro Plating Company and resident of Merlin Court in Columbia, Tennessee, died Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at NHC Maury Regional Transitional Care Center. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 3:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Joe Rushing and Lyndall Propst officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 1:00 - 3:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born April 11, 1931 in Watertown, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Fellie Houston Ferrell and the late Ina LaFevor Ferrell. He was a graduate of Central High School in Shelbyville and continued his education at John A. Gupton Mortuary School, earning his Associates degree in 1952. Mr. Ferrell proudly served in the U.S. Army stationed at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, during the Korean War era. He was a member of Graymere Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife of sixty-five years, whom he married September 26, 1952, Frances Watkins Ferrell of Columbia; daughter, Glenda Ferrell (Tim) Dodd of Columbia; grandchildren, Mathew William Dodd of Murfreesboro and Daniel Ferrell Dodd of Knoxville; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, David Timothy Ferrell on October 17, 2017; and two sisters, Loveda Smith and Juanita Bryan. Active pallbearers will be Matthew Dodd, Daniel Dodd, Tommy Hargrove, Scott Cain, Keith Stewart, Joel Thomas, Fernando DaSilva, and Guy Glendening. Honorary pallbearers will include Clark Gannon, Corky Clendenin, Preston Edwards, Jerry Roark, Paul Dodd, Sr., Don Bryan, and elders and deacons of Graymere Church of Christ.
