View Video Tribute Glenn Autry Rose, 81, born September 10, 1936 in Maury County to Luther A. and Florence Pollock Rose, left this world to his heavenly home on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at Magnolia Health Care. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 10:00 A.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Reverend David Buffalo and Reverend Ezell Rose officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19. The family will visit with friends Friday from 4:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Mr. Rose joined the Tennessee National Guard at age 18 in 1954 and served his country for 38 years achieving the rank of SFC with many years spent as Mess Sergeant. Mr. Rose also served for the Columbia Community in the Civil Defense and late in life in the Tennessee Defense Force. Mr. Rose began coaching Girl's fast pitch softball in 1971. He and his wife, Linda, were instrumental in expanding the league to include the "sweetheart" division for girls as young as 5 and up to the Senior girl's division for up to 18 years. He coached, served many years as the League President, Youth Commissioner, Junior Olympics and as the ASA Commissioner and was inducted into the ASA Hall of Fame. Mr. Rose started the Libby Wells Tournament that was named after a past player and the Anita Inman Tournament named after Anita Inman also a past player and daughter of fellow coach and League President J.C. Inman. After Mr. Rose's wife passed in 1988, the Tournament was renamed as the Inman-Rose Tournament. Proceeds from the tournament were distributed to Columbia Central High School, Columbia Academy and Columbia State Community College to help enhance the softball fields and promote girls fastpitch. On February 27, 1960, he married the love of his life, Linda Adams Rose, who preceded him in death in 1987. He is survived by his daughters, Debbie Rose (Jay Wilson) of Columbia; Phyllis Rose (Jim) Moore of Williamsport; grandchildren, Jennifer Rose Moore of Marrerro, LA; Andrew Earl Moore; and Rebecca Diane Moore both of Williamsport; brother, Ezell (Linda) Rose of Columbia; sister, Audrey Woodall of Hermitage; many nieces and nephews; and special friends, Logan Bryant; Bryston Mosley; Elizabeth Mosley; and Katelyn Mosley. Active pallbearers will be Ricky Rose, Randy Rose, Jerry Dabbs, Ronnie Roland, Ellis Jarratt, Donnie Clark, Brian Adams, and Mark Reece. Honorary pallbearers include Kathy Pedrick, Logan Bryant, Bryston Mosley, employees of Columbia Parks and Recreation, Columbia Girl's fast pitch coaches, umpires, and players, members of the Tennessee National Guard, staff of Magnolia Health Care, staff of Dr. Doug Kennedy's office, and staff of Avalon Hospice.
