Mr. Gordon Arthur Adams, 90, resident of Experiment Station Lane, died Monday, May 17, 2004 at NHC Hillview. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, at Westminster Presbyterian Church with Rev. Buddy Roberts officiating. Burial will be in Ft. Hill Cemetery in Cleveland, TN at 1 p.m. Thursday, Eastern Daylight Time. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 6 - 8 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. The Polk County native was the son of the late Adam Harvey Adams and Evaline Cook Adams. On August 10, 1946 he married Carlene Shugart Adams who survives him. He was a graduate of Polk County High School and attended Howard College. Mr. Adams served in the Army Air Corp in the European Theatre during WWII. He was a TVA Substation operator for thirty-eight years before retiring in 1978. He was a member of Gideons, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, NRA and was a charter member of Maury County Gun Club. He was a fifty year member of Westminster Presbyterian Church where he served as Deacon, Elder, and Sunday School Superintendent. Survivors in addition to his wife are one daughter, Mrs. Anne (Gary) Smith of Johnson City; and two grandsons, Andy Smith of Pasadena, California and Lee (Becky) Smith of Birmingham, Alabama. Pallbearers will be Lee Smith, Andy Smith, David Biederman, Sam Bates, Gerald Ruth, Marion Davis and David Connley. Honorary pallbearers will be Harry Mitchell, Dale Smith, Elders of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Every Ready Sunday School Class at Westminster and TVA retirees.
